Invest in Nigeria is a developing programs which will help Nigerian people and its government. Invest in Nigeria have many benefits, its plays a major part in the up bringing of the Nigerian people and its government. Invest in Nigeria are programs which will help to develop schools, colleges, universities, providing employment for the jobless. And also will help in improving the current situation of the country by bringing in foreign aid as well as foreign investors.

A top Spanish company has already visited Abuja to present its proposal in building roads network, hospitals and universities for the Nigerian people. This is a great achievement for the inventors of invest in Nigeria. The IMF has taken a giant stride once again in invest in Nigeria by providing financial aid to the local governments. The globe corporation has taken the best out of invest in Nigeria programs by going one step further. They have agreed to redevelop a complete city for the Nigerian people in which they wish to build schools, colleges, hospitals, hotels, good roads, and an international airport as well. This is a great achievement as to date so far in invest in Nigeria programs.

Many other companies are also focusing on the potential of agriculture in Nigeria. They have agreed with various local agricultural companies in providing them with the latest machinery and fertilizers that are needed for the better growth of plants. The area of IT and telecommunications are other virgin lands to be tapped within the Nigeria polity, a nation with about 200 Million people with less than 50 % having access to basic telephoning, UN has thanked all the companies that have taken part in the Invest in Nigeria programs. This brings in a new beginning for the country and has also given hope for the local people to look forward for a future that is bright and full of successes.

Despite the huge and enormous natural resources available in Nigeria uneven distribution of wealth has pushed over 80% of the populace to live in abject poverty, thanks also to some state Governments like Lagos and to some extent Kwara states for providing services that was top notch one of its kinds. This is indeed a great achievement for everyone who has taken part and has sweats their blood out to do the impossible.

Due to a great climate and global positioning, Nigeria is one of most fortunate nations when it comes to agriculture. In this way, the Nigerians have plenty of agricultural resources to explore and even to export. By effectively managing the available agricultural resources, Nigeria is also able to improve its economic status by exporting. Furthermore, the government also favors the development of cooperative societies with the purpose of encouraging the industrial agriculture because in Nigeria due to a diverse climate, it is possible the production of almost all agricultural products in the semi-tropical climate.

Agricultural sectors in Nigeria: Before the 1960’s, agriculture was the main activity in Nigeria. However, once with the development of the oil exporting industry it became necessary the import of food. In order to maximize the agricultural outcomes, other agricultural areas were developed during the last decade. In this way, the main agricultural sectors in Nigeria are the following:

Food crops: The crop production was the main agricultural activity in Nigeria for a long time and currently comprises of beans, rice, palm oil, yams, cocoa, groundnuts, melon and many other food crops that are favored due to the tropical and semi-tropical climate of this nation.

Cash crops: In this agricultural sector we may include the production of cotton, rubber, kolanut, gum Arabic, beniseed, palm kernels and many other such crops that can grow in this tropical climate.

Forests: In the case of forests, the following forest tees are available in Nigeria: abora, teak, ebony, ekki, black afara, camwood, mahogany, Nigerian walnut. This agricultural sector is an important and resourceful one in Nigeria and it contributes to economic development in the area.

Livestock: Starting with the 1970’s, a total of 11 million cattle existed and since then on the Nigerian nation has successfully enlarged its livestock production out if which 90% was found in the northern states of the nation. Nowadays, almost all rural households raise their own poultry while chickens represent the predominant poultry in the area. Apart from chickens, in Nigeria there are other animals reared such as cattle, duck, pigs, turkey, sheep, goat, pigeon, donkey and guinea fowls.

Fisheries: This agricultural sector is an important one for Nigeria and ever since the 1970’s when the domestic production of fisheries has been reaching the level of 700.000 tones on a yearly basis. Currently, the fisheries produced within the borders of Nigeria include crabs, shrimps, spade, shark, grunters, cat fish, thread fin, shiny nose and many more.

To conclude, the Nigerian agriculture offers many opportunities to reach economic development on the long run and represents one of the main activities when it comes to export, as well as the petroleum industry. Nevertheless, Nigeria is applying the appropriate solutions in the case of agricultural resource and this gives this nation a competitive advantage as compared to other emerging markets.

Nigeria is a federal constitutional republic in West Africa. The rich historic traditions and culture of the country made a mark as one of the popular tours of travelers from other countries. The cultural and festival tours in Nigeria offer a wide variety of cultural hotspots from luxury to budgeted trips. The two major hotspots are the cities of Abuja and Lagos. These are the two important places and major centers of sightseeing in Nigeria. Some of the popular festivals of the Festival and Cultural Tours of Nigeria are:

Argungu Fishing Festival: The Argungu Festival marks the end of the fishing period and the old opposition between the Kebbi Kingdom and the Sokoto Caliphate . It is held annually from March 12 to 15 in the northwestern state of Arugungu, Kebbi. The festival began in August 1934 when Sultan Dan Mu’azu visited the place. The festival is one of the major cultural celebrations in Nigeria. A grand fishing festival was organized and joined by hundreds of local men armed with fishnets to harvest fish. There are also canoes filled with drummers. People rattle large seed-filled gourds so as to take the fish towards shallow waters.

Argungu Fishing Festival offers many fish competitions as well as canoe racing, bare handed fishing, wild duck hunting, swimming and diving competitions. The final day of the festival showcases a competition of hunting the largest fish. Winners can take home as mush as $7,500. There were also singing, dancing and drinking after the event.

Benin Festival: The Benin Festival is held at the end of every rainy season after harvesting. It is also called a harvest festival but it focuses mainly on the acquaintance of the men and women of the village. The matchmaking ceremony occurs once every four years of the wealthy families. Girls are adorned with heavy armlets and ornaments and coral beads on their hair. Boys take part in the tug-of-war game to demonstrate their strengths. Both girls and boys have paints on their bodies.

Durbar Festival: Durbar (military parade) Festival is a parade of horsemen dated back hundred of year ago. This is the time when the Emirate uses horses and invited regiments in the north during warfare. The festival is held in Katsina and Kano. It was organized in honor of Emir. A parade showcases their horsemanship as a tribute to their loyalty to the Emirate and the preparedness for war. Now, it is being celebrated as an honor for the heads of State and the end of the two Muslim festivals such as Ide-el Kabir (sacrificing a ram instead of Prophet Ibrahim’s son) and the Id-el Fitri (end of Ramadan month).

The celebration has many performances of drummers, singers, royal cavalry and wrestlers. Id-el-Kabir or Sallah Day begins with a prayer followed by a horse procession to the public square. Each district and village group takes their assigned place racing across at full gallop and swords sparkling up. Emir was the last to arrive wherein the people passes and stop to salute him raising their swords. There were lots of dancing, singing and drumming after the event with small bands performing shadi.

Sharo or Shadi Festival: Shadi (flogging meeting) Festival is about age-old initiations originated among the Jaful Fulani culture. There are bare-chested unmarried men who enter the center of the ring escorted with beautiful girls trying to frighten his opponent. Cheers and drumming are present as the challenger comes out handling a whip (belt) to flog his opponent without showing pain. Nigerian festivals were the origin of the traditional religious and cultural heritage of Nigeria. The Festival and Cultural Tours offers great celebrations and fun filled experiences of singing and dancing as well as information on the past history of Nigeria’s culture.

In Lagos, Nigeria, there are a number of markets that attract a large number of people for various reasons. Some people go to these markets to purchase items because of their relatively low prices while others prefer them for a quality shopping experience. Take for instance a small scale retailer based in one of the suburbs, he or she may visit these markets to purchase bulk items from wholesalers in order to resell at lower prices at a more convenient time and place. Here are some popular markets in Lagos Nigeria and the kind of products such markets deal in:

1. Yaba also known as Tejuosho Market currently undergoing renovation it is one of the most modern markets in West Africa with standard facilities and infrastructure. Tejuosho market is a densely populated market, with thousands of shopping units and tens of thousands of customers who patronize the businesses that are resident in the complex on a daily basis. Until 2007 when parts of the market were gutted by fire, Tejuosho market was perhaps the busiest market in Lagos Nigeria after Idumota, Balogun, Oshodi, Alaba Market and seme markets.

2. Alaba International Market. The so called largest electronics market in Africa, Alaba International Market is home to the biggest dealers of electronic products in Nigeria. Many of the dealers are big time importers and distributors of electrical and electronic gadgets such as flat screen televisions, generators, home appliances especially refrigerators, fans, air conditioners, even DVD sets, digital satellite dishes and decoders and many more. The market is a beehive of activities on all days of the week except on Sundays when most of the traders go to church.

3. Computer village. Computer village as the name implies is a market that deals primarily in the buying and selling of computers including software and hardware, mobile phones and their accessories. It is home to some of Nigeria’s best phone and computer repair guys with many of them demonstrating remarkable skills in managing, maintaining and repairing phones, computer parts and other related gadgets. However there is a draw back, this market is also notorious for housing some people of questionable character such as touts, pirates, pick pockets and fraudsters. However the market offers many benefits such as affordable prices and quality products but only where such products are purchased from reputable and authorized dealers.

4. Idumota. One of the oldest markets in Lagos Nigeria, this market is the largest market in West Africa and possibly Africa with tens of thousands of lock up shops occupying various buildings in the market. The distinct feature about this market is that it is made up of very many multiple storey buildings some measuring 5 or even more floors. Most of the shops are actually apartment rooms converted into shops. The market is so big that as early as 6 am in the morning it is already recording large volume of transactions.

5. Balogun. Like the Idumota Market, Balogun market is located on the Lagos Island axis. It too is an old market with very many lock up shops however unlike Idumota market it has much fewer multiple storey buildings. Parts of this market extend into Marina and Broad Street (two of the busiest streets in the central business district of Lagos Nigeria).

6. Mile 12. This market is popular for being the hotbed of farm produce and raw foods. Any vegetable or fruit that grows in tropical Africa except those that are alien to Nigerian soil can be found in this market. It is the cheapest market for foodstuff especially vegetables, fruits and livestock other farm produce.

7. Mushin. Mushin market is a market known for having very cheap items when compared with other markets of Lagos Nigeria. The market is both a wholesale and retail market with almost every consumable imaginable available for sale.

8. Oshodi. Known for its rowdiness and large size Oshodi Market is Nigeria’s second largest market after Idumota market. Up until early 2008, Oshodi was a no go area for many pedestrians and motorists as its roads were so jam packed that free flow of traffic was almost impossible. That is a thing of the past following the determination of the Lagos state government to rid the state of rowdiness, lawlessness and disorderliness. Prices of commodities in this market are also relatively cheap.

9. Onyingbo (White sand). This market located in the mainland Yaba axis along with its sister market at Iddo is a prime market in that it serves as a transit point between Lagos and a number of Northern states with foodstuff arriving from Northern Nigeria straight to it through Iddo. Although not as cheap as Ketu Market, oyingbo market has a number of affordable commodities mainly foodstuff and livestock.

10. Alade Market in Ikeja. This market is modern but not as complete as tejuosho. A number of businesses mostly corporate services and retail stores operate in the market offering services such as travel and tour services, bureau de change, resale of consumables and even car hire services exist in this market. Things are relatively expensive owing to its location (Allen Avenue) and proximity to the international airport.

In Lagos, Nigeria, there is a tourism boom about to be unleashed following development efforts and economic growth that promises many opportunities to investors. The result of this is a rapidly expanding real estate sector offering unlimited opportunities to reap bountiful harvests from. Take for instance 5 years ago undeveloped land in the Lekki axis of Lagos Nigeria and Ikoyi areas sold for less than half its current market value with developed properties selling in some cases for less than one third of the current market price. This is indicative of a real estate boom and unlike the stock market boom of 2004 – 2008 the real estate boom is an investor’s haven. In 2009, and onwards there are many places to start your search for houses available for sale in Lagos Nigeria. Here is a compilation of a list of places to find houses for sale in Lagos Nigeria:

1. News papers and magazine publications – A number of newspapers run dedicated editions for advertising or informing the public about opportunities to buy and sell houses in Lagos Nigeria. The most recognized of these is the Guardian Newspaper which runs a Monday Edition dedicated to the real estate sector. Another well known publication for finding houses for sale in Lagos Nigeria is castles magazine. There is also Properties and Homes magazine among others. The draw back is that these publications can only be bought in Nigeria as they do not circulate globally hence people living abroad may not find this option convenient.

2. Recognized real estate companies and agencies – There are a lot of real estate companies in Nigeria but a few well known include Jide Taiwo and co, Ubosi Eleh and Co, Diya Fatimilehin and co, UAC Properties Limited and Unions Homes among others. Contacting any of these companies is search of houses for sale is another way to go about it. This option covers you although not completely from the activities of omooniles.

3. Enquiries on on-going projects – You could also make enquiries about on going projects such as construction of housing estates and other similar projects directly through the contractors who could refer you to the real estate agency or company handling the project or possibly the owner in order to meet with and negotiate a deal if possible. However not all housing projects have options for selling houses as some of them might actually be tenement projects in which case the owners are only interested in letting out.

Conclusion – Be warned that not all adverts or information made available on channels for sale of houses in Lagos are credible and reliable, you are advised to still carryout some investigation into the claims because some real estate fraudsters are on the prowl looking to defraud unsuspecting buyers of houses in Lagos Nigeria. Also possible for locating houses for sale in Lagos Nigeria is the option of word of mouth from people within your social network although this is hardly as reliable as the other earlier options.

In the late 1950s the British discovered oil in Nigeria. Since then petroleum production has become the biggest industry in Nigeria and a primary contributor to the country’s gross domestic product. The Nigerian oil industry has however been plagued by political and economic instability. Corrupt military regimes and environmental damage has had a negative impact upon Nigeria in general.

Offshore oil drilling has also started to increase and there is still a lot of potential for growth in this sector. Offshore oil drilling has a few advantages over onshore drilling such as fewer restrictions, fewer raids by local militants and less chance of sabotage. Oil exploration and production is almost completely a joint venture partnership between foreign oil companies and the Nigerian government. Local independent companies account for only a very small amount of petroleum production. Here are some of the foreign oil companies that are operating in Nigeria: Agip, Chevron, Exxon-Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell and Total.

Nigeria also has reserves of natural gas. Unfortunately, most of the natural gas that is uncovered during crude oil extraction is burned off. This may cost Nigeria millions of dollars each day in lost revenue. Most of the country’s petroleum reserves are located in the area known as the Niger Delta. This is the area that surrounds the Niger river where it forms a delta before entering the Gulf of Guinea. There are also offshore oil reserves that are slowly being extracted by oil rigs.

You might be forgiven for thinking that the general population of Nigeria shares in the wealth that is generated by oil exports. Sadly, this is not the case. In fact, the opposite is true. Due to widespread corruption in the government the vast oil wealth is shared between only the top 1% of Nigeria’s population. The other 99% of the population has not shared in the wealth created by Nigerian oil revenue. Protests by the general population over social and economic disrepair are usually answered with the use of excessive force by the Nigerian government and military.

Since the emergence of the classic Nigeria 419 scam, the mother of many modern advance fee fraud methods, many people simply assume that anything pertaining to Nigeria is fraudulent. This might be the safest way of operating, but for some, it just isn’t realistic. International relationships in Nigeria are rising. Lagos is the former capital of Nigeria, and it is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a current population of 8 million people.

International business is a way of life here. Business partners and associates exist in Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America. Doing business here often means opportunity and profits. With this potential reward, however, comes significant risk. Businesses aren’t alone in this increasingly risky playing field. Similar to a small business in New York or Paris having to verify it’s business relationship in Lagos, many individuals are finding personal relationships in Nigeria. Whether its romance or a new supplier, the need for a background check is critical.

Many people think the scams, such as advance fee fraud, simply aren’t going to happen to them. Unfortunately, as the world has grown wise to Nigeria’s scams, the Nigeria fraudsters have grown surprisingly sophisticated. Business scammers now have the industry know how, and they use the lingo. They have resumes and references. Beautiful women (including white women) in Lagos definitely exist, but the number of men portraying to be these women is staggering. Here too, the players are professional. They carry on phone conversatons, send email, provide visa and passport copies, and more. This is the new Nigeria 419.

How does one entering into a business or personal relationship in Nigeria find out the truth? We strongly recommend a professional background check, preferably a firm based outside of Nigeria but with local investigators who understand the local customs, people and market. Wymoo International is currently the industry leader for Nigeria background checks. According to Vice President, David Wilkerson, businesses and individuals have to “enter into relationships with insurance given the amount of fraud here, and a professional background is the prudent policy.”

Nigeria is experiencing an economic boom. The combination of this past year’s run up in oil prices, and a sweeping government reform aimed at eradicating corruption, has helped the economy in Nigeria prosper. The economic betterment of Nigeria has lead to a direct increase in the prosperity of its expanding middle class. With a growing banking, oil, and tourism sector, the trickle down effect has put more money into the pockets of the Nigerian middle class. The middle class, comprised of fashion conscious consumers, is using its new found spending power to purchase brand name clothing.

While the clothing market in Nigeria is saturated by Chinese manufactured clothing, there is a scarcity of American brand names. An exporter, whether a single individual bringing clothing to Nigeria, or a large established apparel wholesaler, can make a good deal of money by supplying brand name clothing to Nigeria. Currently, Nigerian consumers are seeking out well known American brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and other internationally recognizable brands.

The Nigerian market has a well developed media sector, which has the spread the popularity of American brand names to the far reaches of the country. Supplying these lucrative brand names to Nigeria is feasible when the clothing exporter understands the market. Because using shipping services such as UPS, Fed Ex, and DHL can be expensive, the use of a freight forwarder is highly recommended. Freight forwarders aggregate shipments from various senders, and through their bargaining power are able to offer shippers a much lower shipping rate.

Another advantage of using a Nigerian freight forwarder is that they can clear the apparel through customs on behalf of the sender. What is perhaps even more helpful to exporters dealing with the Nigerian market, is their freight collect services. Payment for the shipping is made by the customer when he or she picks up the order from the shipper’s Nigerian office. Some of the freight forwarders also offer direct shipping to the customer’s residence or place of business. For people sending clothing to Nigeria, where the shipment is relatively small, the US Postal Service can be used. But while a freight forwarder might charge as low as $2.90 per pound, the US Postal Service charges close to $6 per pound.

Companies such as Grandbelle International and Express Air Freight Unlimited, are able to ship and clear orders for Nigeria, on a freight collect basis, which makes them ideal for business to business transactions. While sellers might be concerned due to media reports concerning fraud, payment for the merchandise can easily be done by wire transfer, since Nigeria has a sophisticated and well developed banking system. If you are a clothing wholesaler or exporter, and you are looking for a market with a strong appetite for high quality brand name clothing, then Nigeria might be the perfect market for you.
